Whenever you are first learning how to play golf, one of the things you’ll need to do is get set up with a trustworthy grip. I would say that 90% of all miss hits can be attributed to an tainted grip. So, how do you find the grip that works for you? Let’s consume a look.
First, it’s important to know that there is no “one grip fits all” mold. Everyone has their own unique grip.
Stand up and let your arms hang down at your sides. Take notice of how many knuckles you can look while doing this. It will likely be two, three at the most.
Now, Pick up your golf club and grip it with the same number of knuckles being visible as there were when you had your arms hanging down. Have you got it? You just found what is your natural grip.
Observe how this golf grip feels. It may feel a little weird at first, but it will get better after a while. The goal here is to have the correct grip that keeps your clubface square at impact.
Next, be sure you grip the golf club with your fingers and not your palm. If you don’t do this then it’s impossible to develop feel and to be able to work the ball.
Take a look at where the “V’s” are pointing when you grip the club. The basic spot will have them pointing up between your nose and your right shoulders.
Now, take a swing and hit a practice ball. Where did it go? If it went a little accurate, then compose a quick adjustment and move the “V” more towards your shoulder which is a stronger grip.
If your shots are going a minute more left, then disappear the “V” more towards your nose, which is a weaker grip.
When you start hitting balls that go out straight towards your target, then you know that you’ve got the true place up.
This will take a little time and practice. You’ll need to make adjustments in order to find the honest grip for you. Consume the time you need to find the correct grip. It’s the most important key to a good, solid swing.
